Rose of Mischief
By kirasmommy

Joxer sat in the woods by a stream. It wasn't cold enough for it to ice up but the rock he sat on felt like a lump of ice. He concentrated on the feeling letting it freeze him inside as well as out.

"I'm useless, worthless, hopeless." He said to the wind.

(All I do is get in trouble. You know she's right I'm no warrior.) He picked up a stone and tossed it into the stream. (Ares doesn't want me.)

He chuckled to himself as he imagined Salmoneous and Ares together. (Autolycus wanted me but I don't feel the same way. And most important of all Gabrielle doesn't want me.)

(I'm a joke to the gods.) He thought bitterly throwing another stone in.

He thought about the gods for awhile. Ticking the ones he knew of off in his head and thinking about their places of worship. None of the gods cared about what he thought or who he worshipped. But they did like to use him for their own ends. (I bet none of the gods knows what it's like to not be appreciated!) The bitterness of this thought took him by surprise as he picked up a stick and threw it over the stream.

(All of them have shrines just to make themselves feel good.) Joxer stood up and started to walk in a random direction.

And suddenly it hit him. (That's not true. There is at least one I know that isn't worshipped. Of course minor ones usually aren't. But the general population actively despises him.) Joxer smiled to himself. (I bet he knows what it's like to be kicked around. I hear Ares treats him pretty rough. And he's considered nothing but trouble...just like me.)

Joxer picked up his step as he headed to the next village. Laughing to himself he tried to bring everything he'd ever heard about the young god to mind. Kicking up a little dust he made his decision.

On the edge of the village Joxer stopped. The area had been war torn for so long many of the buildings were abandoned. He shrugged to himself. (As good a place as any.)

He chose one of the less destroyed buildings and entered. He took off his makeshift armor and cast it aside. He rolled up his sleeves and began to move the rubble. Cleaning the place up took awhile. He slept when he was tired and only left when he was hungry.

In days he had the place halfway decent. He patched the walls and the ceiling, and pretty soon the little place began to look whole.

He sat down and surveyed his work. (Not bad if I do say so myself.)

He lay back and stared up at the ceiling. (Now how do I decorate this place? What do other temples or shrines have? Let's see, something that has to do with them. Ares always had his weapons and such...Aphrodite statues of herself and lots of flowers and stuff. What would represent him?)

Joxer stood up suddenly; (I have an idea!)

He walked out of the room with purpose and out onto the street passing some sheets hung out to dry. He wiggled his eyebrows as he eyed his first target. A bunch of hunters were in the small run down inn. Their dogs and horses tied outside waiting for them.

Joxer smiled a smile full of mischief. He crept up slowly and held his hand to their noses. They yipped at him and wagged their tails.

"Wanna go for a run fellas?" He whispered to them with a suppressed giggle.

He untied all the knots but the dogs didn't want to leave they wanted to love on him. They kissed his face with wet slobbering tongues. "Oh yuck dog breath." He half whispered half-laughed.

He untied the horse and the horse stood there.

"Go Go on! Shoo! Run off!" He moved his hands. The horse looked at him with a bored expression while the dogs continued to jump up on him and lick him.

He rolled his eyes. "This is harder than it looks." He told them.

They seemed to grin at him. He decided to give up and walked away. To his surprise....the entire pack of hunting dogs followed him. "Go AWAY!" He told them firmly but they wagged their tails at him.

He picked up his pace and half ran. They too picked up their pace and ran beside him. He turned his head to look back at the Inn and saw that the horse was starting to wander away from its post. Problem was it was heading for the Inn's door. As it stepped across the threshold he heard the uproar the hunters made and took off in a dead run. Unfortunately for him he had been jogging a good distance without looking in front of him and didn't realize where he was. He fell into a puddle rolled onto his feet and started running again this time muddy. The dogs tripped him up this time and he fell again. This time into an old woman's clothesline. He pulled half the line down trying to keep his balance. The mud gave a stark contrast to the white parts of the sheets.

By this time he could hear a commotion behind him and knew that the hunters weren't far behind. Half wrapped in a now muddy sheet he ran as fast as he could back to his little dwelling. He hid as he heard what sounded like half the town pass the little house. He breathed a sigh of relief, as it appeared that the dogs had decided to stay outside and run outdoors.

He unwrapped himself from the wet and muddy sheet and started to laugh. A hysterical cleansing laugh. A laugh freeing him from his depression and dark feelings he had been feeling in the past weeks. He folded up the sheet and after a few moments of thought laid it upon a shelf on the far wall. He then picked up his armor and laid it on top.

(Perhaps I should have started out more simple.) He thought as he tried to control the hysterical giggling.

He smiled a bittersweet smile as he kneeled in front of the little offering. He picked up the rose he had been carrying and laid it on top of the armor as well.

(Food, most shrines have food offered too!) Joxer looked around and grabbed the dinner he had made for himself but no longer felt hungry enough to eat and after a moment's thought poured some beer into a mug.

"Strife God of Mischief. I give my thanks to thee this day. I am grateful to you for releasing me from my pain. Even if I did screw up." Joxer thought back to the adrenaline rush he had while running. And started to giggle. "I humbly offer my old armor and this food."

In a Temple of Ares Strife looked around him. He felt weird. He felt a charge of electricity flow through him. He heard a whisper and listened carefully. Trying to make out the words.

Ares looked over at his nephew who was frozen in place with a strange mix of wonder, astonishment, and complete and utter rapture on his face. "What's wrong with you?"

Strife didn't answer. Ares looked over at Sal who was going through the offering books and doing the accounting. He shrugged and shook his head. He had no idea either.

"I- I- I'm being prayed to!" Strife breathed.

Ares blinked.

"Unc, I've got to go!" Strife disappeared in a brighter flash than he had ever produced before.

He appeared before Joxer just as he finished his prayer. Joxer was a trifle stunned. He hadn't actually expected an answer. Ares had NEVER answered his prayers, especially in person.

Strife gaped at Joxer. He looked at the little shrine that Joxer had made and the offering on it. He raised an eyebrow at the muddy sheet but as he cast his mind back he saw what had happened. He smiled an inane smile and started to giggle.

"Good one! It takes talent to piss an entire community off." He smiled.

He picked up the rose. "This looks familiar." He tried to remember why but it escaped him.

His heart soared as he looked around the simple temple. He had never had a temple just for him before. As he looked around the bloom of the golden rose started to open. His heart swelled, he felt the energy from Joxer's prayer flow through him making him feel full. Joxer's eyes widened as the forgotten flower opened till it was almost completely open.

Strife laid it back down without a second look. "What made you give up Ares as your chosen God?"

He basked in the light within him as Joxer stood up.

"I needed another way. I can't be entirely good. Not "the Way" type Good. And I can't be a warrior," His voice was a little bitter on the word warrior, "And besides...I need some fun! And well...I'm not wanted by any of the other gods so..."

"Come to the God no one wants." Strife managed a gentle smile. "Thank you. You have no idea what you gave me tonight."

Joxer smiled a little. "Not really."

Strife just shook his head. "So what are your plans."

"I've been thinking about it. And I think to cause general mayhem might be in order. After all I seem to have a knack for it." Joxer said.

"Sounds like an excellent plan!" Strife giggled and jumped around. Suddenly a spur of the moment thought came to him. He grabbed Joxer in his arms and danced around with him before finally flashing away.

They appeared in another town. "I'm going to show you a good time!" The pale god laughed.

"Don't worry about anyone seeing us. We are going to do this the easy way! Invisible."

They found themselves going around town doing juvenile practical jokes. Tying laces together, putting soap in the soup. Switching the spices around in eating places. Watering down bards scrolls. Little annoying things and before long they both collapsed in a fit of giggles while a distraught and naked man opened his clothes chest only to find women's clothing. They had taken the man's clothing to that of another man who was much too short for such clothes and they had taken that man's clothing to one too tall.

They fell together as they laughed as each man was forced to try and put the clothes on in order to leave their houses. Strife put his arm around Joxer and pulled him closer. "You are great!"

His eyes twinkled as another spur of the moment thought came to him. He bent down and kissed Joxer's lips gently. When Joxer didn't pull away he increased the pressure wrapping both of his arms around the mortal.

Joxer found himself responding to Strife's attention. He wrapped his own arms around the pale man and let his hands roam over the black clad body. He felt the world drop away from them as Strife transported them elsewhere.

Joxer opened his eyes and looked around. "Where...?"

Strife silenced him with another kiss. "My Uncle's place. I stay here. It's more comfortable."

His hands ran over Joxer's body and found the openings of his simple clothing. He uncovered Joxer's chest and lowered his head to it. He nipped and licked his way across the smooth skin until he found a nipple and flicked his tongue across it. Joxer jerked slightly.

"Problem?" Strife asked.

"Um I'm sorta ticklish."

"Oh you mean like this?" He reached out and dug his fingers into Joxer's ribs.

"S-s-s-s-stop." Joxer squirmed while giggling they rolled to the edge of the bed and fell off. On the floor Strife continued to tickle Joxer while the mortal began to hiccup. Finally Joxer grabbed the God's hands and pinned them as he rolled over on top of him. He kissed him deeply but was interrupted. "HIC"

Joxer cleared his throat and tried again, "HIC"

Strife began to giggle again as Joxer bent down once more "HIC"

He broke into full blown laughter while Joxer tried to hold his breath. "HIC"

"This is HIC your fault you HIC know." Joxer said as he sat up.

"Here try this." Strife conjured up a mug of water.

Joxer drank deeply and then waited a minute. "I think that did it."

Strife nodded in satisfaction as he grabbed Joxer and threw him on the bed suddenly, "Good!"

He once more attacked Joxer's body but lower. He reached down and cupped Joxer messaging gently. Joxer closed his eyes with a low moan. He reached his hands up and tried to find a way into Strife's clothing. He opened his eyes again and searched again. Strife was still kissing him around the waist. Nipping with his teeth gently and didn't notice that Joxer's attention was wandering as he tried to figure out how to get the God out of his clothing. He pulled on a zipper and while it did open it didn't give him access to any skin.

Finally Strife felt Joxer pulling on his clothing. "Uh sorry dude."

The clothing disappeared and Joxer smiled his thanks. He captured the God's mouth with his own kissing him deeply. Massaging him with his hands alternating between light and strong touching as he moved his hands from his upper back to his rear end. He brought one of his hands around to the front and stroked the hardened member before lowering his head and capturing the head with his lips. He ran his tongue around the head concentrating on the underside before sliding it down to the tightened testicles. He lightly sucked on them while stroking the shaft with a free hand. Strife moaned slightly, "Where'd you learn this?"

He took his mouth away for a second, "Tell ya later." And he re-attacked the swollen organ.

Pearly drops appeared at the top and he licked them off as the tip of his tongue flitted across the slit. Strife began to move under Joxer rhythmically in time with the stroke of his tongue.

He gasped and sat up catching the mortal in his arms. And kissed him tasting himself on his lips. He moved his hand down Joxer's rear and pushed at the opening. Joxer tensed slightly but forced himself to relax. "Not used to this?" Strife breathed.

Joxer shook his head slightly. His eyes were dulled with passion as he kissed Strife again. "Never really went this far. Mostly just the um...well."

"Blowjob?"

"Yeah that, my brother's friends..." Joxer trailed off.

"COOL!" Strife breathed, "I got me a virgin!"

Joxer made a face, "I'm not a virgin...I'm well known at Meg's..."

"That don't count as far as this goes." Strife giggled as he slipped in another finger and began to push it in and out. "this is so cool!"

Joxer closed his eyes and breathed heavily as he concentrated on the feeling. "I've seen pictures."

Strife laughed before nipping on Joxer's ear. "Sal's little collection huh?"

Joxer giggled as Strife tried to touch one of his nipples again. "oops sorry I forgot."

Strife snapped his fingers and Sal's little collection showed up. Joxer blushed slightly as he saw the top parchment. "Um Strife we don't have any feathers for this."

Strife grinned, "That's okay we don't have any fur either." He made the pictures disappear.

He placed his hand back down to Joxer's opening and pushed the fingers gently back in. Joxer shuddered under the touch. Strife moved himself behind the man and placed the head of his penis at the opening pushing it in gently. Joxer gasped.

Strife pulled Joxer up close to him, his belly to Joxer's back and fondled him with his free hand. The bed moved with them, the vibration carried over to the mug of water sitting on the table by the bed and it shattered on the floor. Neither heard it, so caught up in their act of passion.

In the Hallway walking past the room, Ares cocked his head to the side.

"What was that?" Sal asked as he heard the noise.

Ares pushed open the door slightly and stood amazed. Sal looked in and blinked, looked at Ares and looked back into the room, shrugged and closed the door. "Come on...that gave me ideas."

Ares stayed rooted to the spot.

"Ares come on, or they'll notice we are here."

"I'm going to KILL him...again!" Ares growled.

"Oh for what?" Sal asked a little put off.

"He took one of my most faithful worshippers." Ares took a step forward.

"One worshipper, so what?" Sal asked putting a hand on Ares arm.

"It is through our worshippers that we gain more power." Ares gritted his teeth.

"Come with me and I'll worship you enough to make up for him and three other people." Sal winked.

"I knew there was a reason I got you out of prison awhile back." Ares grinned.

Salmoneous made a face. "Don't remind me! That is the last time I go back down there without an escort."

Ares opened his hands in a I told you so gesture. Salmoneous grabbed him by the belt and pulled him behind him as he hurried to their bedroom. In the distance they heard Joxer ask, "You want me to put that *where*?"

Elsewhere....

"The Cronus Stone?!" Discord breathed as she watched Aphrodite with the glowing green stone.

Aphrodite nodded solemnly, "Yes, I found it after Herc threw it."

Discord smiled an evil smile; "We could take over."

Aphrodite rolled her eyes, "Forget it! That isn't why I'm showing you this. If I can't trust you..." Aphrodite started to leave.

"WAIT! Wait, Don't go. I promise. You can trust me. Please just give me this chance." Discord tried to plea.

Aphrodite considered it. "I'll right but hands off okay, And I'll tell you everything."

Discord nodded as they sat upon the round bed.
