Part Three, Chapter Two.
(New Life)

As the whole room became black, Jack became even more concerned quickly Jack asked. “What the hell was that? Everyone alright?”

“Sir, I’m fine.”

“I am well also O’Neill.”

“Danny? You alright?” When no answer came Jack was instantly concerned “Daniel?” As Jack’s eyes finally adjusted to the darkness. Only to be confronted by Daniel’s unconscious form. ‘Danny come-on wake up, please.’ Jack was quickly becoming distraught. “Sam can you come and check on Daniel?” ‘Please don’t let that odd tingling I felt when the light flashed on to have hurt him.’ Jack thought to himself.

“I can’t really see anything wrong with him. His right hand’s a bit red as though he’s had a low level contact burn. Still it shouldn’t have knocked him out. And I don’t think it had anything to do with the low-grade shock that seemed to pass through us either. Teal’c do you think you could carry him I think it would be a really good idea to get Janet to check him over.”

“As you wish MajorCarter.” The journey to the stargate was uneventful; Daniel remained unconscious and unresponsive for the whole journey.

“Carter dial us out.”

“Sir.”

S.G.C. (StarGate Command)

“Unofferised gate activation.”

“Close the iris. Do we have anyone due back?”

“No sir.”

“Do we have a G.D.O. signal?”

“It’s S.G.1, sir.”

“Open the iris.”

“Sir.”

“Medics to the gateroom.” General Hammond called into the handy phone. ‘Knowing S.G.1 they would need the medics, the number of times they’ve gotten their selves injured. It wouldn’t really surprise me.’ George thought to himself.

Suddenly the forms of S.G.1 disturbed the shimmering blue surface of the activated stargate. Immediately Jack called “Medic.” It was now that the general’s eyes fell upon the unconscious form of Daniel, held securely within Teal’c’s arms.

“Colonel, what happened?”

“We were in this temple, Daniel was explaining this translation then suddenly we all felt the tingle travel through us and then the lights went out. As soon as our eyes adjusted to the dark we found him unconscious on the floor. Other than that we don’t know anything.”

“He has slight contact burns on his right hand other than that I couldn’t find any other injury.” Sam quickly added as Daniel was transferred to a gurney.

“Lets get him to the infirmary. And I expect you all to come and get checked out, just because you didn’t pass out it doesn’t mean it won’t cause you any harm later. Sir, if you’ll excuse me?”

An hour later in the infirmary

“Well the rest of S.G.1 have checked out perfectly. I couldn’t find anything wrong anything wrong with them. I couldn’t find anything wrong with Daniel other than the slight burns. All we can do is wait for him to wake up.”

Thirty minutes later

“Hey Doc, I think he’s waking up.” Slowly, little by little Daniel’s eyes opened.

“Hi Daniel do you know where you are?”

“Infirmary?” He only just managed to croak out.

“Yes you are. Do you know what happened?”

“Emm, I was translating that wall with the reasons for the temple and that sorta manual for how you made it work. I think I felt something like an electric shock pass through me after that I can’t remember a thing. So what happened to me? Why am I here?”

“You passed out we brought you back here. The doc couldn’t find out what caused you to pass out.”

“Jan, what happened to my hand?” Daniel enquired as he finally noticed his well bound hand.

“You had some low level burns on your hand. We bound it so that we could reduce the risk of infection. You must have gotten them when you touched something in that room.”

“Other than that there’s nothing wrong with me? Does that mean I can go home?”

“Oh no, don’t even go there Dr. Jackson. I have no idea why you passed out, that means you stay under observation for at least twenty-four hours.”

“Jack, help me get out of here.” Jack who could never ignore Daniel’s pleading quickly formulated a course of attack.

“Come on Doc, I mean how about I take him home with me, I’ll keep an eye on him if anything happens you’ll be the first to know.”

“Okay, but if you feel dizzy or you hand begins to cause you discomfort, then I’ll expect to see you back here. Am I understood?”

“I’ll do anything to get out of here. Jack I don’t suppose you’ve got a change of clothes on you?”

“As a matter of a fact, there you go.” Jack added as he presented Daniel with a pile of folded clothes.

“Thanks.” Daniel called through the cubicle’s curtains as he changed. “Lets get out of here.” Daniel stated as he practically ran out of the room.

Two weeks later

“Jack they’re artefacts, not rocks!!” Daniel’s speech resembled a shout by the time he was finished.

“Come on Danny it was just a joke. Nothing to get upset about.”

“I’m not upset.”

“Well your doing a good impression off it.”

“God Jack I don’t know what’s got into me, everything just seems to be getting to much. Do you have any idea what today is? Do you Jack? I don’t know what to do I really don’t.” Daniel finally stopped his babbling as he broke down into uncontrolled tears. Jack noticing this quickly rose and closed the door to Daniel’s office as he went over to comfort his now distraught friend.

“I know, it doesn’t seem like a year does it? It’s okay to miss Sha’re you know, just because she’s gone doesn’t mean you simply stop loving her. It’s understandable that you’ll be a bit emotional. I know I get emotional on the anniversary of Charlie’s death it’s okay, everyone understands. Trust me.”

“Thanks Jack. Look don’t take this the wrong way, but I do have work to get on with.”

“Sure. I’ll see you later. Don’t work to hard though you need to rest as well.”

“Thanks.”

Two and a half weeks later

“S.G.1 you have a go.” Was called over the tanoy as S.G.1 ascended the ramp to the activated stargate.

P3X 747

“So Carter, where’s the best place to get you soil samples?”

“We should collect them from beside a source of water. Teal’c I don’t suppose you know which direction that river was?”

“In fact I do it is this way.” Teal’c indicated the direction with a casual head tilt.

“Okay kids lets head out.”

An hour later

“Daniel, are you alright?”

“I’m fine Sam.”

“Danny,” Jack chimed in, like Sam he too had noticed him turning an interesting shade of green. Suddenly Jack stopped. “Tell me what’s wrong. And if you tell me nothing, I’ll shoot you right here and now.”

“I’m just feeling a little nauseous that’s all.” Suddenly Daniel swayed only to be caught by a very annoyed Jack.

“That’s all huh?”

“Okay so maybe, I’m a little dizzy too.”

“Sit. Sam you need your soil samples so do, you and Teal’c want to continue on to the river and get all the samples you need? Then you can meet Daniel and I back here.”

“Sir?”

“Jack. I’m fine really.”

“So that’s why your swaying around like a tree in a strong wind then?”

“Jack, please. It’s probably just a stomach bug.”

“We’re staying here and setting- up camp, got it?”

“Fine.”

“We’ll be back as soon as we can, sir.”

Ten minutes later

“Danny this isn’t a simple stomach bug that’s the third time in the last ten minutes that you’ve made a run for that bush. Come on and have something to eat and drink. It’ll strengthen you up.” Jack added from his perch beside the campfire. Daniel edged his way towards Jack, who seeing the movement shifted to fill a mug with coffee and find a really unappealing energy bar. Daniel tentatively nibbled at the bar for about ten minutes by which time he was feeling better. Turning his attention to the coffee his nausea returned full tilt, sending Daniel reeling for the nearest tree, followed closely by Jack.

Meanwhile Sam and Teal’c were entering the clearing and saw Daniel once again empty his stomach. “Daniel you alright?” The small shake of his head emphasised how bad he was really feeling. Even Jack’s constant circling motions against his back couldn’t relieve his nausea.

Moments later Daniel could finally form three small words “Can’t do this.”

“Do what?”

“Keep going with this nausea.”

“How long have you been nauseous?” Sam asked quickly realising there had been more going on than any of them had originally thought.

“Couple of days.” Daniel stated resting his head against a near-by tree.

“Then why the hell didn’t you tell us?”

“Didn’t seem that bad.”

“Well it is now. Lets get everything packed up. Then we’ll hot tail it back to the gate, where you will allow the Doc to check you over. Using whatever tests she wants, am I understood?”

“Jack, I’ll be fine, I really don’t…”

Quickly Jack interrupted “Ahh, yes you do. You are going to go to the Doc if I have to drag you kicking and screaming.”

“Fine.”

“Lets start back.”

An hour later

“Danny, here you need to drink or you’ll de-hydrate.” Jack added as he handed him a canteen of water.

“I’m not de-hydrated.”

“Yes you are. The number of times you’ve thrown up you’ve got to be.”

“Fine.” Daniel stated as he drank a sip of water.

“Good, Carter dial us up.”

“Sir.”

S.G.C.

“Off-world activation, its S.G.1 sir.”

“Open the iris.”

“Sir.” Suddenly the four members of S.G.1 broke through the blue surface.

“Did your mission go as planned?”

“Kinda. Sir will you excuse us we have someone to see.”

“Colonel?”

“Daniel got ill when we were away. I’m going to make sure he goes to the Doc and tells her everything.”

“As you wish colonel. Debriefing will be in two hours.”

“Sir.”
